Mounting the Optical Drives

I had actually messed with adding and replacing optical drives before. The only (minor) criticism I have is that the Coolermaster case does not come with guide rails. In other words, it is somewhat tricky to mount the optical drives, since you have to hold them in place with one hand while trying to put the screws in. I could have asked someone to help me, but I managed on my own anyway.

Strange thing about these CD/DVD drives. They come with four screws to mount them. But they have eight holes for the screws (each). Go figure. Fortunately the case comes with a whole bag of these little screws, so I decided to use eight per drive. More is better, right?

The case has four 5.25" external bays . Decided to mount the drives in bay #2 and bay #4. Why? (the missus was wondering this). Because it leaves some room for air to circulate, so they don't heat each other up. Besides, mounting them is easier that way. My wife thought it looked a little funny. Like I built the thing myself, or something like that. My reply was not to worry about it, since the case has a front door that covers the drives. Hah.

Mounting the Hard Drive

The Coolermaster case has the 3.5" internal bays directly behind the case intake fans. This is quite clever, since it means the hard drives are automatically cooled by these fans. Nice. Interestingly enough, the 3.5" bays do have guide rails. Hmmm.

Mounting the hard drive was a piece of cake. Just slide it in and fasten the screws. Connecting it turned out to be a bit more of a challenge, but more on that later...
